MINERAL WELLS — The winter weather is making efficient operation of the Senior Center activities rather erratic lately. With the closings which are behind us, and the closings which may be ahead of us, we can only plan with hopeful anticipation.
Accordingly, the following news will deal only with those activities and issues which may occur, but please don’t hold the Senior Center accountable if some are canceled. It is for the safety and comfort of the participants that this situation exists.
The current calendar, if it is fulfilled, is pretty exciting, leading up to the annual Gigantic Garage Sale. This year the dates are March 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m. and continuing through Saturday, March 6 at just after noon.
New features included this year are a change of venue, with the sale location being presented at the Activity Center, 735 Hood Road, at Wolters Industrial Park. This move was the result of previous years’ crowding and lack of adequate parking space.
The center is highly appreciative of the use of the MWISD facility on S.W. 5th Avenue, which we were allowed to use for many years. We have just outgrown the place, which served us so well for so long. Thanks MWISD for all that help!
The second feature deals with a never-before availability of paid admission for early shopping, implemented especially for those whose work schedule prevents their attending during workday hours. This will dictate that the Activity Center be open Thursday, March 4, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a $10 per person admission fee. A bake sale is anticipated to be presented at this time, as well. The regular sale dates, March 5th and 6th, will be open to the public, with no admission charge, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 5th and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the 6th.
Donations of clean, usable items will be appreciated and accepted at the Activity Center next Monday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Other dates and times for delivery will be next Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Volunteers will be on site to assist with unloading of the appliances, electronics, household items, clothing, tools, toys, and any other reusable items, such as books, recordings and the like.
At this point, there is still need for volunteers to assist with all phases of the sale. Call the center at (940) 325-6470 for sign up or information. It has been the intent of the center all these years to price the items for sale at a level to make the items affordable to the entire community. That purpose will continue to be foremost in the pricing efforts.
Another item to note, as regards activities and schedules, is the rescheduling of the Wednesday Bingo game to 1 p.m. This is a weekly affair sponsored by IntegraCare. All other activities for the coming week will be as usual, except for the increased attention being paid to the upcoming garage sale.
The 26th is Birthday Party Day, don’t forget. This activity, too, is sponsored by IntegraCare, assisted by HealthLine. There will be the usual festivities and activities connected to that special day when we celebrate the February birthdays of the center participants. Lunch to be served on that occasion will be pork roast, new potatoes, green beans, bread and the usual cake and ice cream. Yum! Yum! Call for a reservation.
