Cooler weather is finally here and perhaps more participants will be showing up at the center from this point on. Friday, the 2nd, will be a great time to get started with Tricia Pilgrim’s Acupressure Therapy. 9:30 a.m. to noon, but you will need an appointment. You’ll feel goood!
Monday, the 5th, will get things started with the Silver Notes doing their rehearsal at 10 a.m., in the center and, following that and lunch, a trip to the Palo Pinto Nursing Center for a sing-along. It is easy, as we listen to the rehearsals that this is an entertainment group, but once they arrive at the nursing homes and retirement centers around town, it can be thought of as both entertainment and participation. They sing the old gospel hymns that we all sang as young people in church and on Sunday afternoon “community singing” times, so they are well known and committed to our memories as well as to our hearts. Anyone visiting loved ones in the nursing homes, or those who just want to sit in on the singing are welcome to join in at any time and any place. It is always a pleasant time and an inspiration.
The first Tuesday of the month, the 6th, will bring the Texas Neighborhood Services group to the center for the purpose of taking utility assistance applications for those who need financial help in keeping up with the utility bills. Twice each month, the 6th and the 20th in October, these helpful folks will be at the center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Be sure to brink all the applicable qualifying paperwork with you when you come in for this service.
Wednesday, of course, is a day of historic repetition every week from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with Bingo, sponsored by IntegraCare. That’s not all, though, because the Silver Sneakers exercise group and the Willing Workers Hand Quilting Group are all squeezed in there during the morning hours before lunch. And don’t forget that Eddie Gilley does a lot of “singin’ and swingin’” from 11 a.m. to noon. If you can’t find anything to interest or occupy you during all that, there is always coffee and chatter. It is a good time to get with good friends for a while.
Thursdays in October are going to be filled every week, with genealogy with Daryl and Teresa Tarmasso on the 8th and 22nd at 10 a.m.
On the 15th, the Red Hatters will meet at the center at 11 a.m. and have a “Harvest Party” with Sherri Friend as hostess. You know what they say about harvesting, “You reap what you sow” and you never know what those red hatters are sowing. Just look out! From 3-6 p.m. later that same day it will be “Game Time” with dominos, Pool, 42, bridge, etc., with light refreshments served during the affair. This will be a lot of fun and with so many different games and activities available, you will surely be able to find your favorite game table waiting for you.
The last Thursday of the month, Oct. 29, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., IntegraCare will sponsor a Community Volunteer Fair. More will be said about this activity in a later column, but let it be said at this point, that those who volunteer regularly will be noted and thanked.
