Family members charged with rioting at amusement park

SALEM, N.H. — Five members of a Vermont family were arrested following a dust-up at the front gate of a popular New Hampshire amusement park.

Two police officers were injured in the melee at Canobie Lake Park, which apparently started after members of the Perry family were asked to remove knives they had strapped to their belts before entering the park, according to Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten.

After members of the park’s security detail made the request, one man started loudly cursing the officers in front of many other park guests, including several children, Patten said.

Joshua Perry, 23, of Sutton, N.H., was told he was under arrest, but when an officer tried to handcuff him, Perry became combative. Then, other family members got involved. Some threw punches and jumped on officers’ backs and others kicked and grabbed for the officers’ weapons, Patten said.

Soon, more police arrived at the scene and brought the fight under control.

In addition to Joshua Perry, those placed under arrest were:

  • Brian Perry, 18, of Lyndonville, who also faces a felony riot charge, simple assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He was held on $5,000 cash bail.
  • Brian Perry, 45, of Lyndon, who faces felony charges of rioting and second-degree assault, as well as disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and criminal trespass. He also was held on $5,000 cash bail.
  • Damian Perry, 18, of Lyndonville, who was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. He was released on $5,000 personal recognizance.
  • Ashley Perry, 20, of Sutton, who was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. She was released on $5,000 personal recognizance.

Joshua Perry was held overnight on $5,000 cash bail. He faces a felony charge of rioting, resisting arrest with serious injury resulting, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
