Cheerleaders bring home camp awards

The Mineral Wells High School cheerleaders recently attended camp at the University of Texas-Arlington.

The cheerleaders won the following awards at camp:

• Angelica Chavira - 9th grade and below group - Jump Queen.

• Kendyl Cooper and Brianna Fitzgerald - Dance Divas .

• Faith Sowers - won the “Name that Tune” contest with her knowledge of sport songs.

• All Stars - Jacye Smith, Sierra Parker, Bailee Marsden, Angelica Chavira, Lexey Patterson and Colby Charles (yell leader).

• Superior ratings - all week - varsity and freshman squads.

• Two Superior and one Excellent rating - junior varsity squad.

• Second place – pom pom routine - squad as a whole.

• Third place - Extreme Routine award - squad as a whole.

• Mascot - Kathryn Witschorke - superior ratings/ All-Star Mascot - she also received the leadership award - first time for Mineral Wells High School. “All squads as a whole won a special award at the Sports Rally at camp - the spirit ball - for showing the most spirit out of all teams in attendance,” said Rhonda Small. “The girls won an additional award at camp – the leadership award. This award is voted on by the teams at camp. You vote for the team that goes out of their way to help other squads, inspiring leadership on and off the field. This award had only been awarded to the Mineral Wells cheer squad one other time, in 2000.”
