MWHS students participate in ‘Hour of Code’ computer education

Special to the Index

Mineral Wells High School students have been participating this week in learning computer code as part of Hour of Code.

Code.org, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to expanding computer science education, launched the Hour of Code as part of the Computer Science Education Week from December 9-15. This program features free tutorials by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft giant Bill Gates that are targeted to get students interested in computer science.

Through the web site, Hour of Code offers lessons in computer coding. Students have been logging on at school and home through the use of a variety of devices including tablets and desktops.

The students who are enrolled in the Computer Science class at MWHS have taken on the challenge of learning computer coding and the emphasis of this skill this week has heightened their excitement towards their endeavor.

Mrs. Peggy Harvey is the instructor of the class and enjoys seeing the enthusiasm of her students as they participate in the Hour of Code.
