Weatherford College Upward Bound students filled four large boxes to be delivered to Manna Storehouse in Weatherford recently. The donated food was the result of the group’s sixth annual December canned food drive.
“The students did a phenomenal job,” said Jeff Kahlden, Upward Bound director. “They showed that they want to take care of each other and take care of their community.”
The students collected over 150 canned food items and more than 50 other non-perishable food items.
“These students always amaze me with the amount that they donate each year,” Kahlden said. “It seems like they always top the numbers that were donated the year before.”
The Weatherford College Upward Bound program is a federally-funded TRIO grant program that assists students who meet low income and first generation college potential requirements.
Students in the WC program attend local target high schools in Gordon, Graford, Millsap, Mineral Wells, and Springtown. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
