Dancing dandies

Wranglerettes take state, regional competition honors


— In February, the Mineral Wells High School Wranglerettes attended the Danceline Hill Country regional competition in Fredericksburg.

The team competed against different schools from around the Austin area. The Wranglerettes entered two team routines, a team pom and a team prop. They received a Division I on each, earning them the Double division I trophy.

Wranglerettes officers Captain Taylor Bean, First Lieutenant Eliasha Defell and lieutenants Mackenzie Dow, Chelsea Morgan and Darian Moya also entered two routines, an officer pom and an officer jazz. They received a Division I on each of those routines, also earning them the Double Division I trophy.

The officers won first place – Best in Category for their officer pom. The team won first place – Best in Category for their prop routine. Eliasha Defell and Sydney Fewell received Division I on their solos. Taylor Bean and Chelsea Morgan received a Division I on their duet and won First place in the duet category. Eliasha Defell entered a technique challenge for toe touches at the end of the day and she won second place.



State competition

On March 1, the Mineral Wells High School Wranglerettes attended the Danceline Bluebonnet State Competition in Denton. The team competed against different schools from around the area and came home champions.

The Wranglerettes entered three team routines, a team pom, a team prop and a team military. They received a Division I on each earning them the Sweepstakes Award.

Wranglerettes officers Captain Taylor Bean, First Lieutenant Eliasha Defell and lieutenants Mackenzie Dow, Chelsea Morgan and Darian Moya also entered three routines, an officer pom, an officer jazz and an officer modern. They received a Division I on each of those routines, earning them the Sweepstakes Award.

Other awards won were:

• First place – Best in Category for the officer pom.

• First place – Best In Category for the officer modern.

• First place – Best in Category for the team prop routine.

• First runner up – Best In Category for the team pom.

• Precision Award for the team prop.

• Judges Award – chosen by one of the three judges as the most stand out routine of the day to them for the officer modern.

• Eliasha Defell and Darian Moya received Division I on their solos.

• Taylor Bean and Chelsea Morgan received a Division I on their duet.

• Eliasha Defell won an award for Best Solo Costume.

A special award was given to a member of the team chosen by the Wranglerette Director, Jennifer Jones. The Anita Jefferson Connelly Award is awarded to a team member who has proven to possess attributes of integrity, hard work and extra dedication to the team this season. This award was given to Aleesa Morgan.

Finally, the awards ceremony ended with the Wranglerettes on top as they were awarded the Grand Champion award for small teams.

The Wranglerettes have worked hard this competition season and will be gearing up for their Spring Show soon. Tryouts for next year’s team will be held in May.
