Houston Elementary students participated in an Extreme Science Challenge on May 16. All students worked on a team in their classrooms to compete in one of three events, the “sailboat” challenge, the “egg drop” challenge, or the “paper aircraft” challenge.
For the “sailboat” challenge, students were required to create a sailboat using household materials with limited dimensions that moved the fastest when blown by one of the students while carrying 300 grams of weight.
For the “egg drop” challenge, students were required to construct a container using household materials with limited weight that kept a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a certain height.
For the “paper aircraft” challenge, students were required to design a paper aircraft to test variables such as: gravity, lift, and drag.
Winners from the campus event competed in the district event at Mineral Wells High School on May 23.
