Travis STAAR Pep Rally

Travis Elementary held a pep rally on Friday to get students motivated and energized for taking the STAAR tests. The Cat in the Hat, Travis Student Council, Travis Cadets, MWHS Cheerleaders, high school athletic team leaders, teachers and other guests were invited to take part in the spirited event.

The excitement began with an indoor parade. Travis STUCO began waving banners of well wishes for success, while the MWHS cheerleaders performed several inspirational cheers for the audience. The program included numerous motivational messages by Superintendent Dr. Gail Haterius, Travis Principal Natalie Griffin, Travis teachers and team leaders from MWHS athletics.

Ms. Griffin opened the pep rally with a special request to her students. “To promise me that you will always remember”:  “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you see, and smarter than you think. This is a quote from Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh and from me to you”.

Travis Students also enjoyed skits performed by the Cat in the Hat and Travis Elementary teachers on the importance of being prepared. “You know that you’ve practiced, you know how to try. If you use all you’ve learned, you’ll most definitely fly,” exclaimed the Cat in the Hat. The Travis Cadets then inspired the spectators by performing “I Was Here,” by Lady Antebellum.

The program concluded with a motivational video that illustrated a fun way, along with words of encouragement, how students can better prepare for the STAAR test.

The rally was designed to recognize the efforts of Travis students and teachers. It was a great time to reflect, in a confident and positive way, on all the hard work and preparation that has taken place at Travis throughout the school year.
