Area teachers honored by Weatherford College

Dori Taylor, an English and World Geography teacher at Jacksboro High School, and Jennifer Spelios, an English-Language Arts teacher at Perrin Elementary School were among 34 teachers from across the region honored by Weatherford College at the 2012-13 Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers celebration at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center, in Weatherford.

Celebrating its 17th anniversary year, the Harvey Academy honors exemplary teachers in the memory of Professor Emeritus Jack Harvey, who taught at WC for 23 years and was considered among his peers as a “master teacher.”

Mrs. Taylor is an exemplary teacher, her nominator said. She noted of Taylor, “She truly cares about her students and has high expectations for each student, regardless of their ability level. Mrs. Taylor works diligently to prepare her students for success in high school and beyond. Her high standard of classroom instruction results in a high level of student achievement. Mrs. Taylor does an outstanding job preparing her students for success on state assessments. Her students consistently score in the exemplary range. Mrs. Taylor is one of our most valuable teachers at Jacksboro High School.”

“Ms. Spelios is exemplary because of her dedication to excellence,” her nominator wrote. “She does whatever it takes to ensure the success of her students. In addition, she shares her love for reading and writing with her students each day and encourages them to do their best.”
