GORDON – At a recent Lion's Club Dinner, four Gordon High School students were honored for their outstanding achievements. Teachers selected students Emery Allen, Michael Spraggins, Amber Proctor and Kyla Proctor. Each briefly told of their high school achievements in the community and school activities. They were questioned by the Lions Club members. One will be honored with a $200 bond and a bronze Lion award at graduation services.
Members present were Jon Hartgraves, Jimmy Hunt, Jerry Edwards, Calvin Stoner, Ann Stoner, Bill Hopkins and Norman Hall. Absent were Max Wheeler, Betty Baker, Steve Ezell and Ross Hefner.
The Lions lamented losing one of the most faithful members, Harold Burgett. Harold had been a longtime member and will be missed. The Lions have a yearly pancake supper to raise money for their philanthropy projects. Harold had received a pancake "shooter" from his children. It made perfect shaped pancakes. Their hope is that he willed that to the Lions for their future suppers! His vest will be hung on the wall to honor him. A donation will be given to the Community Center fund in his memory.
While we are addressing the Lions, I want to personally thank them for making communication in Gordon possible. We have no newspaper or any way to communicate other than e-mails, flyers, etc. They have set up a large "Bulletin Board" (actually two), which allows anyone to place letters in the slots to get their message "out." This is at the corner of highways 193 and 919 at the stop sign. Thanks Lions!
