Rams ready to roll

New season begins tonight in Glen Rose as players establish unique set of goals

Most athletic teams, especially from the high school level up, set goals for their seasons.

A lot of times they are set by the coaches and are fairly routine and predictable: make the playoffs; win district; win a state championship. Coaches might throw in things like cutting down mistakes, reducing penalties or other necessities conducive to winning.

The Rams haven't had much success the last two seasons, and they are young and inexperienced in areas and face a lot of obstacles and uncertainties going into tonight's season opener at Glen Rose.

But with the team playing in a new home stadium and new district this season, Rams head coach David Bourquin let the players vote on the goals they want to meet this season. They came up with a list many would consider unique:

• Teamwork.

• Leadership.

• Brotherhood.

• Encouragement.

• Accountability.

“When they set those goals, I thought that was a pretty impressive deal. We're proud of these guys,” Bourquin told Index Sports Editor Craig Holamon.
