MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap Afterschool Program Summer Camps

MILLSAP – With the school year almost finished there are opportunities in the works to keep area kids busy during the summer months. The Millsap Afterschool Program has exciting summer camps starting June 9.

The fun and free camps include The Amazing Race, CSI Millsap, Once Upon A Twisted Tale, Cheer/Dance Camp, Lego Robotics and Animation Celebration. Along with the camps lunch will be provided. Call 940-682-3143 for dates, times and other info. These activities will be a great way for kids to learn while having an enjoyable time.

Soda Springs Baptist Church recently hosted the award winning Bost Family in concert. The group hails from Cochise County, Ariz., and has nine members. The members are Jeff and Pamela Bost and their seven children. Their musical style is bluegrass with Appalachian instrumentation. The group is evangelistic and performs at many outreach concerts, revivals, and community events. They also perform regularly in Branson, Mo. Accolades are high for this group and the Soda Springs congregation was very blessed to enjoy the music of the band.

The City of Millsap held an election on May 10 for mayor. The two candidates were incumbent Jamie French and Michael Kinman. French was re-elected. The council consists of Mayor French, Mayor Pro Tem Michael Kinman, Sally Uribe, Chris Scoffield, Yolanda Malloux and Teresa Howard.

The latest citywide endeavor of the council was sponsoring the free breakfast at the Log Cabin Days Festival. The group did a great job of feeding more than 250 people. We thank each council member for all that they do for the people of Millsap.

The Millsap Maroon Crew, through Millsap ISD, is sponsoring their first Barbecue and Chili Cook Off on Saturday, June 14. Categories are chicken, beans, ribs, chili and dessert. The entry fee is $150. For rules and entry forms go to millsapisd.net, and for questions call (817) 994-1533. Sounds like fun!

There will be no school Monday, in observation of Memorial Day. May 29-30 will be full school days. June 2-3 are early release days at 1 p.m.

Memorial Day is May 26 as the nation remembers fallen soldiers.

Thank you for reading.

Dissection of notes found in the pocket of an old suit isn’t easy. Maybe they were scrawled during the lull in a wedding ceremony, or to jog my memory of a joke for later use.
