Millsap Matters: With Spring comes opportunities to get involved

By Sharron Hudson

With the first day of Spring (March 20) officially past, things in this part of the country are busier than ever. One thing that quite a few of our citizens have become interested and involved in is the Adopt A County Road Litter Removal Program.

Parker County Chairperson Darwin Yeary recently spoke about the program at the Millsap Precinct 3 Stakeholders Meeting. The program is an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful and helpful in a number of ways. By clearing litter, water that goes into creeks is protected as is the underground water supply in the adopted areas. Research shows that the clean look improves property values and that people are actually less likely to throw out trash in adopted areas. This is something that people can join in with their neighbors or make a family project.  There is recognition for the effort as signs are made available with the adopting group's name on them.  For more info on this worthwhile project call Mr. Yeary at (817) 599-3919. The motto of this is "we have a county worth taking care of."

The Millsap Baptist Church Food Pantry is as busy as ever helping fill the needs of those who are hungry. There is an ongoing community effort of several churches, organizations and individuals to keep the pantry stocked. The winter months showed great needs, with the largest amount of families served being in December. There were 28.

While all food items and daily essentials are always needed to keep the supply up, there is especially a need right now for protein in a can and toilet paper.

With school letting out shortly for the summer  we need to remember that all the children who ate breakfast and lunch there free or at reduced rate will not have that option. It would be great to get the pantry ready for families who are going to need help on this front. The workers are very diligent in organizing the whole project and always helpful and gracious, and the facility opens every Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. If you can, please donate as this is an essential service. Everything is appreciated.

Dissection of notes found in the pocket of an old suit isn’t easy. Maybe they were scrawled during the lull in a wedding ceremony, or to jog my memory of a joke for later use.
