The Blue Bonnet Garden Club met at the Mineral Wells Senior Center on Feb. 12. Some of the members chose to come early and partake of the Crawfish Etoufee lunch that was prepared in honor of Mardi Gras. They were given beautiful colored, feathered masks to wear for the occasion and had an entertaining time learning some facts about Mardi Gras traditions.
After the meal, the members were joined by Tammy Lovell, the guest speaker for February. Tammy has been chair for the First United Methodist Food Bank for eight years and also helped initiate the Backpack Buddy program which has been one of the Blue Bonnet Club's projects for a long time, along with monthly donations to Meals on Wheels. Ms. Lovell's presentation re-invigorated our commitment to these worthwhile programs and also educated our members on the new Center of Life and Noah's Ark projects.
After conducting the regular club business, two of our members were recognized as 2013 Palo Pinto County Fair Champions. Willie Mae Hubbard was the Adult Reserve Champion in Canned Fruits and Vegetables and Veda Lee won Adult Reserve Champion in Cookies and Candy. Even though Robbie Pierson was unable to attend, she provided delicious pies for our refreshments and co-hostess Trell Taylor served the desserts to the members and provided drinks. As the members were leaving, Willie Mae gave each lady a sack containing homemade cookies with a chocolate kiss in the middle in honor of Valentine's Day.
The next meeting will be March 12 and everyone is welcome.
Special thanks to the Mineral Wells Senior Center for allowing the club to use their facilities.
