Engagement Hiatt-Duckworth

Some are granted the blessing of loving deeply only once in a lifetime. For a few, that blessing happens twice.

William J. Duckworth and Mary L. Hiatt proudly announce their engagement and upcoming wedding. Mary is the widowed wife of Mickey Dawes, CEO of Wildcatter Records. Mary has been employed for the past six years as a family nurse practitioner at Graham Medical Associates, and has been in the medical field for over 30 years with a background in Oncology Hematology. As a commander in the United States Navy, she was recently selected for a promotion to captain, serving in the Expeditionary Medicine Unit One, Dallas.

William (Bill) is the Operations Manager at Southern Bleacher where he has worked for the past 36 years. Bill is the widowed husband of Liz Duckworth. They were married for 45 years. He has four children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mary and Bill met 10 years ago when Liz was a patient where Mary practiced as oncology nurse practitioner. Liz and Mickey met and became fast friends, sharing many stories, laughter, and tears while receiving chemotherapy.

At the suggestion of Bill’s youngest daughter, the couple finally had their first date.  They have been at a fast gallop ever since, quickly falling in love. Their marriage ceremony, officiated by Rev. Charlie Bazan, will be on June 29, 2013. The honeymoon and marriage celebration will take place in the Florida Keys, accompanied by Bill’s childrenand grandchildren.

  • don newbury.jpg THE IDLE AMERICAN: Old, new, borrowed, blue ...

Dissection of notes found in the pocket of an old suit isn’t easy. Maybe they were scrawled during the lull in a wedding ceremony, or to jog my memory of a joke for later use.

Many years ago, shortly after I retired from the Navy, I was sitting around shooting the breeze with my brother David when he remarked that he regretted never serving in the military and experiencing the things I had seen.

  • Seibert, Sue 2010.jpg SEIBERT: Reflections on summertime ...

Well, the time is here once again. We had a little winter this year, but summer is upon us. We’re having temperatures in the 90s, and very little rain appears to be in sight. I would not trade to live in any state other than Texas, you understand, but summer is surely not my favorite season of the year.
