Members of the Junior History Club of Mineral Wells met Thursday at the Senior Center for their monthly meeting. Vivian Conrad and Babe Gilbert were hostess and program leader. Vivian was unable to attend due to conflict of scheduling.
Babe Gilbert introduced the program for the day. Paul Kessler is a holocaust-era survivor. This Paul Kessler is not related to our local Kessler family. He was born in Czechoslovakia (now called Slovakia) in 1939.
It was a small farming village. The Germans had not yet come to the area but their political system was in place. The soldiers were soon to follow. It was some of the village people that turned in Paul’s parents.
Paul’s father and grandfather were taken to Auschwitz. Paul and his mother hid in the woods until a family took and hid them near their barn. Soldiers were living in their house so this was very risky.
