Teen in critical condition after bus stop assault
High school student turns self in Monday on felony charge
From Staff Reports
A 16-year-old is in critical condition and an 18-year-old jailed on a felony charge following a Friday morning assault, according to Mineral Wells police.
Mineral Wells High School student William Floyd Watts, 18, turned himself in to police detectives Monday morning. He was charged with felony aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and jailed under a $10,000 bond set by Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Bobby Hart.
A police report stated Watts was angry with the victim and knew he would be at a school bus stop around 7 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of S.W. 4th Avenue. Police said Watts, described in a report as standing 6 feet, 4 inches and weighing about 300 pounds, drove up, exited his vehicle and struck the teen in the head with a fist.
A police report stated the victim fell to the ground and Watts went to pick him up to hit him again. But Watts said he noticed the teen was hurt more than he thought, so he placed the victim in the grass and left.
Paramedics were called, and they reportedly treated the victim at the scene for a nose bleed. The teen went home, and began encountering headaches. He was taken by private vehicle to Palo Pinto General Hospital, from where he was later flown by medical helicopter to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
A police spokesman said the teen’s father told police his son has a crack along the side of his skull and is bleeding from the brain in three places and remains in critical condition.
The report did not indicate why Watts allegedly attacked the teen.
Fire damages homes
Mineral Wells fire officials extinguished a fire Sunday afternoon at a residence in the 2100 block of S.E. 21st Street.
The fire call was made around 2:12 p.m. Fire crews arrived to the sight of heavy smoke and flames coming from a bedroom window.
The fire took a little over an hour to put out, requiring about 500 gallons of water, officials said.
The cause of the fire was cited as aluminum wiring that shorted by a switch box. The box was located next to a bed with a down comforter, which ignited. No injuries were reported.
A neighboring home sustained damage caused by heat and smoke, officials said.
Citations that bite
A woman’s loose dogs will come back to bite her – financially.
A call was made around 5:13 p.m. Sunday concerning six dogs running loose in the 500 block of S.W. 22nd Street.
Five of the dogs reportedly belonged to one woman. She was written 10 citations – two for each dog for running loose and for not having current vaccinations and tags.
Dispute over
church attendance
Sometimes people argue over not wanting to attend church. On Saturday afternoon, a woman was reportedly attacked by her grandson because the teen wanted to go to church, but she refused.
Police said the incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 200 block of Country Club Parkway. Officials said when a 13-year-old male at the home was told he could not go to church, he became angry and attacked his grandmother, punching her in an eye and kicking her in a leg.
The teen was arrested and turned over to juvenile probation officials, who transported him to a detention facility in Granbury.
The grandmother was not hurt, and indicated to police her grandson has been an ongoing problem.

A man was arrested on several charges after police woke him from inside his vehicle, parked outside a convenience store in the 3100 block of U.S. Highway 180 East.
