Victim of Friday fire identified

PERRIN – The Friday morning house fire claimed the life of 41-year-old Davia Lynn Whitaker, Jack County Sheriff’s Department officials reported Monday.

Jack County firefighters responded to the wood-frame residence early Friday at approximately 5:30 a.m. after someone called the fire in. Upon their arrival at the scene, Jack County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jim Richardson reported two rooms of the brick-veneer home were fully involved and there was fire in the southern portion of the residence.

The house is located approximately two miles south of Farm-to-Market Road 2210 on U.S. Hwy 281 North. Using 1,000 gallons of water, firefighters from Jack County VFD and Perrin VFD were able to extinguish the blaze.

However, because of the smoke, heat and fire damage to the structure, Richardson reported that the structure is a “total loss;” he estimated the damage at $155,000.

Jack County Sheriff Danny Nash told the Index Monday the cause of the fire “appears to be an accident” but the state fire marshal is still investigating the situation.

“The house has been released to the family,” Nash added.
