Man critical after Friday wreck

From Staff Reports

A Perrin man remained in critical condition late Friday morning after his vehicle rear-ended a tractor-trailer rig on U.S. Highway 281 North.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Donnie Wright told the Index he received a call at 12:25 a.m. Friday to a collision on U.S. 281 North, one-tenth of a mile from the Jack County border.

An 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on the highway and signaled to turn east on Hardy Road when a Chevrolet S-10 pickup traveling behind the rig slammed into the trailer. The rig, owned by B&B Disposal, of Graham, was carrying a full load of salt water, officials said.

Wright reported that a witness behind the S-10 pickup told authorities that the driver was “all over the road.” There weren’t any skid marks to indicate the pickup’s driver tried to stop, the trooper noted.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, Anthony Kevin Alvey, 25, was cut out of the vehicle by the Jack County Fire Department and transported by air ambulance to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. Alvey was reportedly wearing a seatbelt.

The S-10 pickup was considered “totaled” while the tractor-trailer rig was able to drive from the scene. Officials reported clearing the scene at 1:45 a.m.; a Mineral Wells wrecker service removed the pickup.

Wright told the Index the cause is failure to control speed by the S-10 pickup and as of Friday, no citation was issued. When asked if any other factors could’ve been involved in the collision, the trooper said it remains under investigation.
