Police arrest two teens after alert neighbor’s call

Two 17-year-olds were arrested Thursday morning after a Mineral Wells resident called police, reporting that the duo were allegedly breaking into a vehicle.

According to police reports, an alert resident in the 400 block of N.W. 5th Avenue called authorities at 2:34 a.m. Thursday. She reported seeing two subjects in a silver car trying to break into a vehicle, police officials said. The caller’s husband proceeded to follow the suspicious car until police pulled the vehicle over in the 900 block of S.W. 16th Street, according to reports.

When confronted by police, the teenagers said they were being chased by someone in a vehicle and that they had stopped in the northwest area to relieve themselves, officials said. Travis Lee Neel and Johnny Lee Yanez, both of Mineral Wells, were arrested and charged with burglary of a vehicle. Yanez was also charged with possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

Drug arrests
Mineral Wells police arrested two Mineral Wells men Thursday after responding to a burglary in process call in the 1100 block of S.E. 12th Street where a subject was reportedly armed with a knife.

Police were dispatched at 5:40 p.m. to a residence in southeast Mineral Wells where they saw a trailer home with its front door open and a strong smell of marijuana emitting from it. Officers reported observing several individuals who informed them that there wasn’t a burglary in progress; police reported seeing marijuana in plain view.

One of the individuals inside, Robert Earl Gillen, 36, of Mineral Wells, told the officers he was “just smoking a joint.” He was detained after he attempted to leave the living room, officials reported. He was arrested after a brief struggle and charged with interfering with public duty, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

Another person at the residence, Ricky Lynn Starr, 24, of Mineral Wells, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia after a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine was reportedly discovered in his pocket.
