Monday marks the first Chester R. “Chet” Upham Jr. Day, honoring the Mineral Wells businessman and benefactor.
To honor Upham on the date of his birthday, May 19, the Upham family wishes to “honor U.S. troops in some way,” said Barbara Upham.
As a result, the family is trying to gather names, addresses and verification of status of all those serving in active military service – including active reserves – who live or whose families live in Palo Pinto County.
“To honor dad, we want to honor our troops,” said Upham, “by making a token of our appreciation.”
A World War II veteran, Chet Upham “truly understood the cost of freedom that the citizens of the United States enjoy,” said Barbara Upham.
She said her family wants to be inclusive and are looking for a complete list, “as soon as possible.” The list would include addresses of local women and men in service. To be included on the list, contact Upham at (940) 798-2665.
Monday at 10:30 a.m., representatives from State Representative Jim Keffer and Congressman Mac Thornberry’s offices, as well as city, county and local officials will convene in a ceremony at city hall. They will read proclamations and letters and the public is invited.
