A busy slate of activities at the center

Tomorrow is the big day for Crafts and Treasures Sale. This is a fundraiser for the center’s operational fund, but it is also an opportunity for early gift shopping and getting some of the most lovingly and expertly crafted items that will fit easily into any gifting situation.

Many have been made within the walls of the center, much has also been carefully created at home, in both places given much care and control to produce the most useful, beautiful and thoughtful gifts. The best thing is, they are highly affordable and are offered as a means for both buyers and sellers being able to say, “I am helping finance the Senior Center.” The sale begins at 10 a.m., and continues until 4 p.m.

Next Tuesday, the 12th of August, is the monthly Health Check Day. Little needs to be said about this benefit of the center, because over the past many years the proof has been obvious and helpful. When one becomes older, it seems that we should be more careful of our day-to-day physical condition, and these fine professionals from PPGH Home Health and Mineral Wells Medical Supply are faithful to be on hand to help us. Come on down and take advantage of this cost-free service. No appointment necessary.

Wednesday, the 13th, is a special Bingo day, beginning at 9:30 a.m. There will be surprises and prizes in store at Bonanza Bingo! If you enjoy the excitement and surprise of winning and getting to shout BINGO!, this is a good time to be able to do so.

Red Hatters, don’t forget that Thursday, Aug, 21, is the time for the monthly meeting to celebrate sisterhood, togetherness, fun, feasting and everything that is implied by the wearing of the red hat and dressing in purple. As usual, you will meet at the Senior Center around 11 a.m., to carpool to lunch somewhere exciting and comfortable to “meet and eat.” No announcement has been made to the public regarding a specific destination at which to do those two monthly things, but it is sure to be fun! Get your hat and be at the center on Thursday, the 21st, at 11 a.m., y’ hear?

The next day, Aug. 22, is AARP Defensive Driving day, beginning at 8 a.m.. Don’t forget to pre-register and make a $10 deposit, prior to that date. The money required is not to pay for the use of the center, but to authenticate the state-approved nature of the instructor and the subject matter. As usual, this is an all day event, stopping at noon for lunch, resuming at 1 p.m. and continuing until around 5 p.m,

Lunch for that day, as listed on the menu, will be meat loaf, new potatoes, Brussels sprouts, rolls and fresh fruit. There will be a chef salad available on request and reservations if you wish. Your choice of milk, coffee or tea, too, of course. If this does not suit your fancy, or your dietary needs, you are welcome to bring a sack lunch, or go out to eat in town. Your choice.

All other scheduled activities are as listed on the August calendar, available at the front desk at the Senior Center. Feel free to involve yourself in any or all for your enjoyment. The center provides comfortable temperatures for most, but for the colder-natured, please bring a shawl or sweater.
