The Pythian Sisters of Temple No. 14 are gearing up for their second annual Crazy Womanless Beauty Pageant to benefit a handful of local organizations.
In true pageant fashion, this year’s contestants will compete for evening attire, talent and questions at the North Oak Community Center. The man who wins this year’s “beauty pageant” with their five o’clock shadow and leg hair will be crowned Miss Crazy Womanless. Last year’s winner was Ms. Rowena Lambchop, a.k.a. Roy Burkhalter, who will be crowning the new winner.
According to committee member Linda Choate, nine brave contestants are currently slated to strut their stuff for the pageant’s judging panel of Bobby Hart, Bob Manskey, Kathy Foster and Bill Spencer.
Building upon last year’s more than $5,000 in donations, the Pythian Temple is raising money through ticket sales and silent auction items to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates, Hope Inc., Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels of Palo Pinto County, Pythian Children’s Home in Weatherford and the Pythian Guest House retirement home in Greenville.
According to Pythian Sister Cindy Choate, the fundraiser will allow the organization to give back to the community in a variety of ways from donations to sponsorships of sports teams.
The doors at the North Oak Community Center open at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 with barbecue sandwiches, sides and drinks on the menu. The evening includes music by Elvis Bunnell and a silent auction featuring several items. The pageant begins at 7:40 p.m.
Tickets for the event are $15 each in advance and can be picked up at the Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce, Hanchey Leather Goods, House of Fabrics, Downtown Video, Meals on Wheels of Palo Pinto County or from the pageant’s committee members. Ticket prices increase to $20 per person at the door.
According to Choate, they are still accepting silent auction items and contestants for the event. For more information, call 325-7717.
