Meals on Wheels Holiday Wish List 2008

Listed below are some of the Christmas wishes/needs for some of the homebound seniors and clients served by Meals on Wheels of Palo Pinto County.

“We have, again this year, requested the participants to extend the Wish List to their caregivers, as well as, their pets,” said MOW Executive Director Patty Clark. “In 2006 we did 69 on our Wish List. In 2007 we did around 125 on the Wish List. I expect us to exceed that number for 2008 and, with your help, I know it will happen. Many of our participants do not have family to share the holidays with, let alone anyone to depend on for their needs, wants and wishes.”

Anyone wishing to provide for one or more of the requests listed can contact Clark at (940) 325-7919 or (940) 327-9434, or take the donations to the Meals on Wheels office at 1410 S.E. Martin Luther King Jr. St. in Mineral Wells, TX 76067.

MOW Wish List

• Female disabled/ Under 60: I live at P.K. Lake near my sister, who is also a MOW participant. I enjoy TV, reading the Word of God, and People Magazine. My favorite foods are fruits, mashed potatoes & gravy, beef, chicken, & eggs. My favorite colors are blue, pink, lavender, black, white, & red. My specific needs are for warm things inside and out, large PJs, an electric blanket, large sweaters, long-soft pants, and size 7 warm socks. I also need good tennis shoes. I have a bad foot and were insoles. Something I wish for is a home of my own. Housing where it’s quiet. I would love to have snow boots, black or brown, in a size 7 -1/2 . I thank God for people like you. I would love to have the movies North & South, Lonesome Dove, &/or Into The West. I would love to help in any way I can. My call is to help the poor in life and in spirit. Pleas send someone talk to me. I love people and want to do something. I can’t stand for too long at a time, but I can sit and pack things to be sent out. I’ll be praying for your outreach. My son’s dog needs to be fixed but don’t have the extra money. I feel sorry for the dog. She had puppies 5 times and she has 9 to 10 or more every time. Baby Girl is what I call her.

• Male 60+: I live in M.W. with my daughter and her family. Due to the extent of my illness, I must have people to look after me. There are 5 people in my household, 2 big dogs, and 2 puppies. I enjoy fishing & watching movies. My favorite food is a hamburger. My favorite colors are green and blue. I have a specific need for pajamas & house shoes. I wish for a jacket. I wear pants size 30X30, shirt size medium, and shoes size 9.I have an 11 -1/2 yr. old granddaughter who loves playing games, pizza, & pickles. Her favorite colors are purple & pink. She needs winter clothes. She wishes for games to play. She wears size 12-14 in pants, medium shirts, and size 7 in shoes. My grandson is 13. he enjoys listening to music, playing with friends. His favorite foods are nachos & tacos. His favorite color is light blue. He needs a hooded sweatshirt. He wishes for music CDs and a DVD player. He wears XL pants, L shirts, & shoes size 7 -1/2 - 8. (There appears to be some other size written, but not sure what it pertains to. If you pick this list you can call them and talk to them for specifics.) Our big dogs are Pepper & Angel. They need dog food and dog treats. The puppies were born Oct. 21st and just need a baby blanket.

• Female Disabled/ Under 60: I live at PK Lake. I enjoy watching movies, using my computer when I had one that worked. I have a DVD player but my old TV won’t hook up to it with satellite. My favorite foods are any sweet soft foods, as I have a lot of trouble with my teeth. My favorite colors are pink, purple, & blue, but I’m not picky. I need PJs & house slippers. Something I wish for is more volunteers for MOW and more funds. They NEED IT Santa! I wear Med-Lg and size 7 -1/2 shoes. Patty said to ask for a Laptop since that’s all I do, but I had rather MOW get the funds. My caregiver is my long-time friend. He enjoys watching TV & building projects. His favorite food is milk & cookies. His favorite colors are blue, gray, & tan. He needs jeans & t-shirts. His wish is for Peach on Earth. His pant size is 38WX29L and his shirts are XL. Under additional comments he says GREAT PROGRAM, MOW. Under Pets Names & Needs she writes: No Pets. NO PATTY, I don’t need one. I have enough neighborhood pets to make up for not having my own any more. Plus I don’t think I could go through another pet loss again. (I think if anyone wanted to, maybe we could just take her some various treats to feed to the neighboring pets!)

• Female 60+: I live alone in MW. I enjoy reading books. My favorite food is chicken strips. My favorite color is blue. I need Vanity Fair panties size 9 in white.

• Male 60+: (A specific note on this wonderful, wonderful man: He is a Bronze Star Medal recipient for bravery and heroism. Most people do not know this about this man.) I live in MW with my son. I love reading westerns. My favorite foods are chili dogs & ice cream. My favorite colors are blue & white. My specific need is for your prayers. I wish for a Queen Size Bed Comforter. MOW is doing a great service. My son enjoys reading and watching TV. His favorite food is Mexican. His favorite colors are Red & Blue. He wishes for Adventure, Western, & War books.

• Female 60+: I wish at Sandstone Apts. I enjoy crafts, reading, some TV, eating, and sleeping. My favorite foods are cookies, chicken, veggies, & all tender meats. My favorite colors are all dark colors-black, red, pink, blue, brown, green, purple. My specific need is for a scooter, but it’s too expensive. I wish for a Wii Console for exercise. My clothes are size 12 or medium. I don’t want to be selfish, but would like a laptop.

• Female 60+: I live in MW. My favorite food is fruit. I need a gown size 18.

• Female 60+: I love out by the airport. I enjoy quilting & plastic craft. My favorite foods are spaghetti & pizza. My favorite colors are purple & lavender. I need sweat shirts and pants and that is also what I wish for. My size is 1X. I have a 4 lb. Yorkie named Toby. He likes Old Roy Kibbles Chunks & Chews from W*M.

• Female Disabled/ Under 60: I love in MW. I enjoy movies & music DVDs. My favorite foods are chicken & chips. My favorite colors are blue & silver. I need a cowboy sweat shirt or jogging suit. I wish for an IPod, cordless telephone, or bedding. My size is 3X. I thank MOW for my meals. My caregiver enjoys movies as well. She likes tuna fish & fruits. Her favorite colors are blue & red. She needs clothes & shoes. She wishes for pots & pans. She wears size 2X and shoe size is 5 -1/2 -6. She states she thanks IntegraCare for her job.

• Female 60+: I live at Sandstone Foothills Apts. I enjoy my grandchildren, computers, & helping my neighbors. My favorite foods are Mexican & Blue Bell Peppermint Ice Cream. My favorite color is blue. I need Queen-sized sheets, Soft’n Dry spray deodorant, Zest bath soap, Polident, shampoo, Gardenia cologne, dressy blouse 5X, XLong Night Gown size 3X or larger, Icy Hot back patches. Her sizes are mainly Women’s Size 5X.

• Female Disabled/ Under 60: I enjoy reading my Bible. My favorite foods are broccoli, sweet potatoes, yogurt, & Oriental foods. My favorite colors are Black, Gold, & Red. I need baby wipes, paper towels, disposable plates, cups, & utensils. I wish for a new Bible Large Print KJV with my name embossed on it. I would be so thankful for merely prayer. Other members of my household are my caregiver. He loves Mexican food. His favorite color is blue. His specific needs is non-food stamp items. Things that are necessary but not covered by food stamps. He wishes for a secured bag to carry his medications in. It needs to be big enough for 18 prescriptions, a Glucometer, and his blood pressure machine. He says God Bless for our work. There is also an 8 yr old granddaughter who enjoys adult level puzzles, arts, & crafts. Her favorite foods are Lomein Noodles, pepper steak, Oriental Foods. Her favorite colors are pink w/red w/orange. She says her specific need is for gas money so she and her mommy can come help grandma. Her wish is for her grandma to get well. They also have a teacup Yorkie and request potty pads, greenies for 5 lb. dog, and safe toys.

• Female 60+: I live at Tuck’s. My favorite colors are blue & pink. I need gowns, house dresses, Leggs Everyday Plus Size Knee Highs Suntan Reinforced Toe. I wish for White Shoulders cologne/perfume. I wear 3XXX Cotton clothing.

• Female/Disabled Under 60: I live at Cedar View Apts. I enjoy cats & crafts. My favorite good is Chicken & Mexican Food. My favorite colors are red & purple. I need an XXL Night Gown. I wish for Kitty Treats & Toys. My clothing size is XXL. My cats are Tammy & Toby. They would love toys, treats, & a scratching post.

• Female 60+: I enjoy candles. I love all foods. My favorite color is Red. I need shampoo & lotions. I wish for candles. Thank you very much for everything.

• Male/Disabled Under 60: I think RAW is a wrestling program, but that is one of the things he enjoys besides being outdoors and having his dog. His favorite foods are hamburgers & chicken. His favorite color is red. He needs cleaning stuff. He wishes for clothes, cleaning stuff, & socks. He wears size 18 Shirt, 36X29 pants, no size on socks, but I would guess in the vicinity of size 9. He says you are very nice to me and I’m thankful for the food. He has a caregiver that comes in and she says she enjoys taking care of people, country music, & praying. Her favorite foods are chicken, pork chops, & hamburger meat. Her favorite colors are red, blue, & black. She needs socks, shoes, & hairspray. She wishes for makeup, friendship, & winter clothes. Her shoe size is 9-1/2 and clothes are Medium. She says I am thankful for y’all. The dog is named Smokey. He needs his shots, dog bones, and dog food.

• Female 60+: This is an amazing woman. We almost lost her a few weeks ago, but she came back in full swing! She does not let anything get her down. She loves crocheting and making things for other people. She loves all foods, but is allergic to fresh tomatoes. Her favorite colors are purple, black, red, green, yellow, blue, & pink. She needs toilet paper, shampoo, & body wash. Her only wish is to be needed and loved. Her clothing size is Sweat Shirts & Pants XL, Long-sleeved shirts XL. Her comment is… God Bless each and every one that is trying to make my Christmas special.

• Female 60+: I live at Sandstone Apts. I enjoy plants & books. My favorite foods are strawberries, bananas, & grapes. I need full-sized sheets and wash cloths. I wish for a warm, fuzzy, robe size 2X-3X. If I ever get able health-wise to volunteer & help MOW I would like to help out! I have no caregiver, but I’ve worked as one for many years. My cat, Posha Ann likes cat-nip & rats!

• Female 60+: I live at Shady Oak Circle. I enjoy taking care of my birds & flowers. My favorite food is Bar-B-Q Sandwiches, fruits, & cookies. My favorite color is pink. I need Gold Bond products. I use all the different things they make. I wish for every body to be friends and help someone. I also wish for size 8 house shoes. I could never tell MOW how much I appreciate. (Just a side note: she does feed the local birds and has a beautiful flower garden in front of her apt.)

• Female 60+: I live with my daughter, who is in very poor health, & my son-in-law. I enjoy watching TV and doing Find A Word books. My favorite foods are vegetable rays & dip, fudge with nuts, & mixed dried fruits. My favorite color is lilac & blue. I need soft cotton gowns size large or XL. Large or XL gowns, shoes size 8 -1/2 -9. I would like someone to stay with me a few hours after daughter has surgery & can get around so she & her husband can go out some Saturday. My daughter enjoys shopping, cookbooks, yard sales, & church. She wishes for fudge with nuts & to feed a homeless person in my name. She also wishes for someone to sit with her mom some Saturday. Her son-in-law enjoys computers. His only wish is to feed a homeless person in his m-i-l’s name.

• Male 60+: He is still a caregiver himself of two sons who are still at home, and one son that works to help the family. He is in very poor health, but his sons are wonderful and they do their best to help their dad. Under things he enjoys he wrote… Having plenty of clothing, food, shoes for his sons. Favorite foods are spam, potted meat, all kinds of food, can goods, fruit, corn, tuna, refried beans, & corned beef. His favorite colors are blue, brown, & black. His specific needs are for food, clothes, shoes, socks, some kind of toys for his boys, a new phone because his broke. I wish I was not sick-dying, so I could do things for myself. Shoes 9 -1/2 , 11, & 12 for my 3 boys. He has written a comment but I am having trouble reading it. I know he needs much more than he is asking for, so if you chose to do this one, you might want to go and visit him first and see exactly what he needs.

• Female 60+: Enjoys reading. Wishes for full-size sheets & pillow covers. Sassie is her dog and she would like a coat or sweater small and Pupperoni Original Treats.

• Female/Disabled Under 60: Enjoys fishing & camping. Favorite foods are shrimp, steak, chicken salad, chicken pot pie, chocolate and/or strawberry cake. She likes bright colors. She needs a shower curtain, & needs and wishes for a King size heating blanket. She wishes for dentures, as she has no teeth. She would also like a throw blanket for sitting in the recliner. Bubby is their cat who likes Dry Purina Indoor Cat Food, canned food, & clump-able litter.

• Male 60+: Enjoyed fishing & camping, all foods, and favorite colors are blues, browns, & other earthy colors. He needs a small freezer to keep frozen foods in. He wishes for an indoor bicycle to exercise on, and a king size heating blanket. He wears XL clothing. I want to thank all of you that make this happen!!! Bubba is a Russian Blue 17.7 lb cat that needs a bed of it’s own so he won’t sleep in their bed. They’ve had him 7 years.

• Female 60+: There are two in the household. She enjoys CNN news. Her favorite food is MOW. Favorite color is lt. blue or pink. Would like an XL Heavy Warm Robe. Caregiver enjoys computers. Favorite foods are cake, broccoli, steak, & homemade rolls. His favorite colors are blue & black. He needs house shoes size 11, flannel PJs Medium. He wishes for a NEW SHELBY MUSTANG!!!

• Female 60+: Enjoys reading, listening to music, church, & movies. Favorite foods are chicken, fruit, & chicken noodle soup. Her favorite color is blue. She needs additional help with bathing, food preparation, & dressing. She wishes for socks, a watch, XL sweat suit &/or jogging suit, king sized pillows, and an XL coat. Her clothes size are 16 and 8 -1/2 shoes. One caregiver likes to listen to people talk. Her favorite food is ham. Her favorite color is red. She would like a house of her own and a car. She wishes for socks and tennis shoes size 8. She hopes to make a difference. The other household member loves music & church, chicken, and red. She needs a coat size 3X and socks. I believe there is also a young child in the home, so if you chose this wish list, you may want to pay them a visit or make a call to them to verify if there is. I always see him when I deliver meals. They also have a dog named Lady. She likes any kind of dog food and of course she loves table food!

• Female 60+: Lives at Heritage Manor; enjoys Country & Gospel music CDs, Word Search puzzle books, Mexican food, & chicken livers. Her favorite colors are blue & hot pink. She has to walk with a cane. She wishes for size 8 panties and some cologne or perfume.

• Female Disabled/Under 60 with grandchildren she is raising: She used her wish list to ask for things for her grandkids. The first is a 2 mt. old. She enjoys looking at colors. She needs Simalac Advanced Baby Formula. She loves bright colors. She needs Pampers size 1, clothes size 0-3 months, blankets, socks, various foods for her age group. The 5 yr. old grandson enjoys playing Ninja Turtles, watching Batman. He likes all foods. His favorite color is green. He needs shoes size 13, socks, pants size 7 shirts size 7, underwear, t-shirts, etc… His wish is to see his dad, so I’m guessing there’s a story there. I’m a little confused on this one. It shows a 2 year old, but under things he enjoys it says playing on Play-Station Famen. He likes all foods. His favorite color is blue. He needs socks & shoes size 7 -1/2 , pants size 5T, shirts size 5T, etc… he too wishes to see his dad. I think she has squeezed her wish in for size 4X clothing including pants, shirts, & shoes size 8. Needs socks, blankets, towels, wash clothes, body wash, cleaning supplies, etc…She apparently still has children as well. 1 needs pants 40X29, socks, boxers size Med, sweathers size 4XL, another needs pants size 36X38, socks, boxers medium, shirts 3XL. They have a dog named Foxy that needs food, toys, leash, and a doggy blanket. This may also be one that merits a visit or a phone call.

• Female 60+: She enjoys puzzle books, romance magazines such as True Story, etc… Detective magazines, & so on. Her favorite food is sliced ham. Her favorite colors are pink & blue. She needs pull over house dresses size 1X. She is a stroke victim and cannot use her hands to button or snap. She is a diabetic.

• Female Disabled/Under 60: Enjoys Italian & Mexican foods, movies, warm gowns, Bible on tape, pink & yellow colors. She needs a gown size 2X or 3X.

. DOESN’T LIKE SCARY MOVIES. Her husband is a disabled Veteran and is 60+. He enjoys computer, tools, fishing & hunting when he could. He loves German food, brussel sprouts, & ham. His favorite colors are black & camo. He needs clothes, underwear, socks, t-shirts. Pants 40X30, T-shirts XL. Pets are Norton who needs a new ball, Ruby who needs a squeaky toy, and Lady who needs a hair brush.

• Couple 60+: Enjoys reading his Bible and fishing when he could. He loves catfish, bananas, & bar-b-q. His favorite color is blue. Mrs. enjoys church, jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, hamburgers, fried catfish, & bananas. Her favorite color is pink.

• Male 60+: Enjoys Christmas cards, rib-eye steak, and the color red. He wishes for a rib-eye!!! That’s it!

Male Disabled/Under 60: Enjoys movies & music, meatloaf, and the colors purple & blue. He wishes sweat pants and shirts size 5X.

• Female 60+: She enjoys doing puzzles & Word Seeks. She likes Mac & Cheese and fish. Favorite color is blue. She needs a gown, housecoat, & slippers size 3X and 9 slippers. She wishes for a queen size blanket. Her puppy is Little Bit and she eats puppy food. She has 2 cats & 1 kitten in which she just feeds cat food too.

• Male 60+: He enjoys sports, watching TV, eating, having company, having someone who will come and take him to do things. He is almost blind and loves to get out and see what he can. He is a diabetic. He likes fish, noodles, meat balls, meat loaf, sugar-free candy, & potatoes. His favorite colors are blue & red. Specific needs are for western short sleeved shirts, blue jeans, tennis shoes, boots, fruit, sugar-free candy, cake & pie. He wishes for all those things as well. Sizes Large shirt, 36X30 Jeans, 9 -1/2 shoes, 10 boots. Would like anything we can bring. Thank you all for everything.

• Male 60+: He enjoys TV, computer, pool, & poker. He likes fish & spaghetti. His favorite colors are blue & black. Specific needs are for help with meds & drs. He wishes for some good ramps to get on and off his porch and a new electric wheelchair. Says his is not dependable. His caregiver enjoys TV, sewing, computers, collecting anything to do with Elvis Presley. Her favorite food is chicken. Her favorite colors are browns & dark colors. Specific need is for good pair of shoes to work in & socks. She wish for firewood that would last all winter long. I use the fireplace more than the gas to keep the bills down. Size 8 for shoes. Pets are Ginger & Spice, but I don’t know if it’s cats or dogs. Needs food, treats, & flea collars.

• Female 60+: Chocolate & Dr Peppers!

• Female 60+: Enjoys embroidery, gospel music, and G movies. Likes buttered popcorn, club crackers, & raison bread. Favorite colors blue, pink, soft colors. Needs face Clean & Clean & Moisturize, warm socks with long tops. Wishes for an old movie called Beulah Land. She is requesting help for a couple in Palo Pinto who are having a hard time getting by. The wife is a diabetic. The best I can figure they may need food. This may be one we need to call for more info. Say the wife likes coloring books & puzzle books. Anyway… She has 1 outside dog named Girl, but the couple she wants help for has 3 dogs.

• Male 60+: He enjoys TV. He loves chicken. He needs a razor. Liquid Supplements any flavor.

• Female 60+: She enjoys TV. She loves vegetables. Likes blue, red, & green. Needs a house keeper. She is a size 14, but doesn’t list any clothing items. She drinks Vanilla Ensure+. She only wishes for better health.

Female Disabled/Under 60: She enjoys her Chihuahua Tika, plants, & books. She likes oranges, bananas, yogurt, & hot tea. Favorite colors green, turquoise, orange, & pink. Needs thick mattress topper. Wishes for pillow-top mattress or thick padded topper. Would like a coat for Tika or a legs out carrier. Tika is a small Chihuahua. Her bed is a Queen size. I need sheets for my bed and doesn’t care if they are not new. Tika likes pink and needs a warm coat. She likes tuna, wieners, & chicken.

• Female 60+: Enjoys embroidering, sewing, going to church when able. Likes broccoli, brussel sprouts, potatoes, fish, and all kinds of veggies. She likes navy blue and med. blue, black & white. She needs a size 3X women’s heavy coat sweater & a not real large handbag. She wishes for an electric blanket.

• Male 60+: Enjoys TV, chicken fried steak, & Twinkies. Lives tans, browns, & black. He needs blue jeans, snap western shirts, complete bed set for a full-size bed. Would love flannel sheets. He wears 34X29 pants and large shirts.

• Female 60+: She enjoys TV, playing DVDs, & recording on DVDs. Favorite foods are fruits, fish, salads, potatoes, Chunky Soups, candy, club crackers, & just about everything else. Diabetic. Colors are red, blue, green, & all bright colors. I need loose fitting lounge dresses, panties, bras, sheets for hospital bed. I wish for Mid-length house dresses, panties, fruit, candy, bras, cake. I wear 3X in dresses, 13 panties, 46C bra. Her dog Jake could use any pet food or pet care stuff. He loves small bones.

• Female 60+: Loves fruits & nuts. Favorite colors are pink, blue, red, & black. Medium Shoes size 9. Anything is appreciated. Has dogs, one named Heidi.

• Female 60+: Enjoys crocheting, TV, & playing with her dog. Favorite foods are ham, sweet potatoes, any greens, homemade HOT chili. Favorite colors are red, white, & blue. She wishes for crochet thread & peppermint candy. Can’t make it out, looks like she’d like a sweater jacket. She mentions her dog, but didn’t give us details. If you want to do her, we can call for more info.

• Female 60+: Enjoys going to church. Favorite foods are seafood, shrimps, & cure 81 ham. Favorite colors are pink & blue. Needs VanFair Panties. Clothing size 14 pants, 1X sweaters, Panties size 8.

• Male 60+: Enjoys listening to Gospel tapes or CD, making crafts, Indian & Western stuff. Favorite foods are ham, pork chops, steaks, chicken, turkey, bacon, cheese, vegetables, chili, cakes, or pie. Favorite colors are turquoise, red, green turquoise, black, denim. Need black or blue jeans size 42X29, Indian or Western belt size 44, white knee socks. Indian or Western shirts Ex Large NO WHITE PLEASE. His little dogs are Tricksy & Cindy. They like Purina Dog Chow. They would like a stainless steel dog food bowl, large collar, and leashes.

• Female 60+: Enjoys reading, watching movies, cooking when able. Favorite foods are fruit, nuts, and healthy foods. Favorite colors are blue, burgundy, browns, & black. Needs bath towels & wash clothes. Wishes for Flannel sheets regular size, and a deep fryer.

• Male 60+: Enjoys reading and watching TV. Likes Beef sausage, cookies, & chocolate. Likes blue & grey. Needs a long-sleeved shirt 16X33 and large V-Neck t-shirts. He has pets: Buck needs dog food & flea & tick meds. Goldie & Whitey are his cats and they too need food and flea & tick meds.

• Female 60+: Enjoys watching TV & crossword puzzles. Likes chicken, pork chops, corn, & broccoli. Favorite colors are blue, red, & pink. Needs doggy & kitty food. Anything would be nice in the way of clothing, size 18 or XL. I was just informed today that this participant has no propane because she owes a bill. Even if she did, her hot water heater is broken, so she has no hot water. She needs a lot of help trying to get her place cleaned up and repaired. It is really a very sad situation. She is one that if you take her on, for more than a few wish list items, you would need to meet her and find out all her needs first hand. She has at least 2 dogs & 3 cats I believe. Her living conditions are not good at all.

• Male 60+: Enjoys playing bingo and playing with his cats. Like tamales, beans & potatoes, hominy, oatmeal. Favorite colors are blue & red. He wishes for coveralls size XL. His wife enjoys being with the grandkids, family, and cooking. Her favorite food is a good cheeseburger! Her favorite color is blue. She wishes for a large jacket. Their cats are Wilber, Blackie, Baby, Missie Prissie, & Pretty Boy. Just need some cat food and toys.

• Female 60+: Love Mexican food. Needs diabetic socks size 4-10.
