Everyone knows about the Grinch that stole Christmas in Whoville, but the Mineral Wells Police Department dealt with some grinches of their own in the past two weeks in the form of some odd burglaries.

On Monday, Dec. 16, MWPD responded to a burglary investigation in the 400 block of NW 31st Street.

Police said a local realtor took someone to see a house for sale, but when they opened the front door, they got quite a surprise: the house had been burglarized, including the kitchen sink.

In addition to the $125 sink, the victims found all of the light fixtures, light switch covers and many light bulbs were missing and the sheet rock had been damaged.

Police said all of the breakers had also been turned off, suggesting that the burglar(s) might have been trying to take copper wiring.

This investigation is ongoing.

Another unusual incident occurred on Thursday, Dec. 19, just before 10:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of SE 11th Avenue. Police said they arrived at the scene to find a man and woman standing in the front yard screaming at each other. The woman was holding a television.

MWPD began investigating and the woman told them she caught her ex-boyfriend leaving her 83-year-old mother’s house with the TV.

At that point, she took the TV back from him and began telling him off.

Police arrested 29-year-old Ricky L. Starr for burglary of a habitation.
