MaKaylee Dawn Steiner, 14-year-old daughter of Dieter and Misty Steiner, of Mineral Wells, and granddaughter of Edwin and Debbie Fowler and Dieter K. & Stevie Jo Steiner, also of Mineral Wells, has been selected as a candidate in the 2013 Miss Teen of Texas Scholarship and Recognition Pageant.

The event will take place at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in San Antonio, Nov. 29 – Dec. 1.

MaKaylee is an A-honor roll, ninth-grade student at Santo High School and currently holds a 4.6 GPA.

She is active in various activities including Student Council, Beta Club, UIL, Science Olympiad, Basketball, Band, Cross Country and FFA.

When MaKaylee is not studying or playing basketball, she loves to immerse herself in a great book.

One of her favorite novels is “Amity & Sorrow,” by Peggy Riley. MaKaylee gives credit to her amazing teachers at Santo who over the years have instilled the love of reading in her.

Her teachers have inspired her and have always been supportive of her educational goals.

When MaKaylee graduates she would like to attend Texas Christian University in hopes of pursuing a career in Pediatrics.

MaKaylee also has two brothers who are 19-year-old Corey and 8-year-old Braxton.

Her aunts and uncles include Cody and Kendra Fowler, Bryan and Lisa Johnson, Kitty and Tim Greensweight, Richard (Bubba) Steiner and Penny Judd.

Each state candidate will be scored in six judging categories, which are: Scholastic Record, Achievement and Service to School and Community, Personal Development of Talents and Skills, Personality Projection in Formal Wear, General Awareness Written Test, and Judges Interviews.

National Pageant Founder Warren Alexander stated:

“This pageant truly represents the young women of the Twenty-First Century.

“Sixty percent of the judging involves written resumes detailing each girl’s accomplishments, with the strongest single category being her interview with the judges.”

The candidate selected to represent her state as Miss Teen of Texas will receive a cash scholarship, custom-designed award plaque, medallion of excellence and sash.

The new state titleholder will also be eligible to compete for the National title of Miss Teen of America and vie for additional scholarships, awards and prizes.

The State Pageant finals will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec.1, in the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel Ballroom in San Antonio.

The event is open to the general public, and tickets will be available for purchase at the door. Special guests featured in the program will be the outgoing Miss Teen of Texas, Kiera Kinnaird of Seagraves, Texas, who was also selected as our current Miss Teen of America.

MaKaylee sill be sponsored for the weekend by Fort Wolter’s Machine & Tool LLC; Bryli Inc, Edwin and Debbie Fowler, Bryan and Lisa Johnson, Penny Judd, Jim and Sue Gardner, and numerous other family and friends.
