Public hearings set for proposed tax increase

PALO PINTO – Palo Pinto County Commissioners Court unanimously proposed the 2013 tax rate for the 2014 fiscal year in a regular session on Monday morning and set dates for two public hearings. The tax rate involves a 6-percent increase over the previous total rate: from .332 per $100 valuation to .352 per $100.

County Auditor Steve Watson explained that the effective rate will still be lower than the proposed tax rate at .3303591 with a rollback rate set at .459125.

Watson said he has budgeted total revenue, including Road & Bridge and all other sources of revenue, to be $13,606,630 for the 2014 budget. He said this allocates $11,461,500 in revenue for the general fund.

Commissioners set public hearing dates concerning the proposed tax rate for Aug. 26 and 29 at 9 a.m. in the County Courtroom at the Palo Pinto County Courthouse. The 2014 Palo Pinto County budget is also scheduled to be discussed in the public hearing on Aug. 26.

Commissioners plan to officially set the new budget and tax rate on Sept. 9 in their 9 a.m. session.
