Mineral Wells police responded to an early morning rollover crash Sunday in the 2200 block of S.W. 5th Ave.

According to police reports, Victor Manuel Hernandez, 36, of Mineral Wells, was driving his 2003 Ford Mustang south along S.W. 5th Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle.

Officers reportedly noticed skid marks at the scene, indicating Hernandez veered to the left and crashed through a fence in the 500 block of S.W. 22nd St., causing the Mustang to roll.

Continuing into a neighboring yard, the vehicle struck a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the driveway and ultimately came to rest against the residence.

During the crash, one of the Mustang’s tires reportedly flew off and struck the home, causing additional damage.

The report indicates the distance from initial skid marks to the vehicle’s resting place was approximately 100 yards.

Suspecting Hernandez had been drinking, police reportedly ordered a blood test at the hospital. As of Tuesday afternoon, police said the results of that test were still pending.

Officers report all three passengers were injured, though just Hernandez and a back seat passenger, Randall Gary Whitehead, 59, of Mineral Wells, were transported to Palo Pinto General Hospital.

Hernandez and front seat passenger, Bryan Wesley Lewis, 33, of Mineral Wells, received non-incapacitating injuries while Whitehead was injured more severely, the report states.

Investigators indicated Hernandez and Lewis were wearing safety belts but did not know if Whitehead wore his prior to the crash.

The crash report listed driver inattention, failure to control speed and drinking as contributing factors.
