Whether it’s a birthday, wedding anniversary or the commemoration of virtually any momentous event, 50 years is pretty universally celebrated as a big deal. This year, Davis Glass and Body Works of Mineral Wells celebrates its own 50th anniversary, having been in business serving the auto repair needs of locals for half a century.
“It means a lot,” Owner Terrill Davis said. “It makes you feel good to have a business that long.”
Davis’ business now joins a exclusive club of organizations that have been in Mineral Wells for at least five decades, including Bennett’s Office Supplies on North Oak Avenue and Peco Facet on Washington Road on the east side of town.
The body shop has been in the family for two generations, with Terrill’s father starting the company on West Hubbard Street back in 1963. As for the next 50 years, Davis said the youngest of his three sons, Blaine, has expressed interest in taking over the family business. Blaine is currently a student at Mineral Wells High School, so Terrill said once he was old enough he would let him try his hand at running an auto shop.
Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ryan Roach offered his congratulations to Davis Body Works, saying businesses like theirs have a huge impact on the community.
“A business that has the ability to be successful over a 50 year period is a testament to integrity and quality of people that own and operate it,” he said. “It’s certainly a milestone and they deserve all the credit and recognition.”
Davis said the most important part of his company’s success have been the people of Mineral Wells that loyally depended on him for the vehicular needs.
“We appreciate all of our customers that have been loyal to us over the years,” he said. “We take a lot of pride in our work, try to do a good job for the community and we’ll keep on trying.”
