GARNER – Many Garner ISD students arrived at school Monday wearing Texas Rangers apparel honoring a fellow Garner ISD student who died last week.
Sixth grader Aaron Brannan, 13, died following a four-wheeler accident in Oklahoma, Garner ISD confirmed Monday.
The boy had been a student at the small school district since kindergarten and was an active athlete who enjoyed playing baseball, Garner ISD Superintendent Marion Ferguson said.
“He was a student loved by everyone,” Ferguson said.
Notified Saturday morning of the boy’s death, Ferguson said the school district sent information to parents about Brannan’s death so they could talk with their children over the weekend.
School staff came in early Monday, and Millsap ISD sent two counselors to assist alongside the Garner ISD counselor if students needed to talk, according to Ferguson, who said ministers from First Baptist and Bethesda United Methodist Church were also available to students.
The boy’s death has been tough for the small school, where all the teachers have known Brannan since kindergarten, according to Ferguson, who said the district has come together as a family along with the support of other local districts and churches.
Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells had not confirmed a service time as of Monday afternoon.
