In the wake of Thursday’s explosion in West, Texas, and bombings in Boston, Mass., local “vampire” Pat Talkington advises prospective donors to wait at least a week to start giving blood.
Talkington coordinates the community blood drives through Palo Pinto General Hospital and Carter Bloodcare.
She said victims of the West explosion, and other tragedies, will need blood throughout the summer.
“Continue giving regularly so those who have burns will have blood when they need it for their treatments and surgeries later on,” she said.
Right now, she noted, Carter is booked up at their donor centers.
The next blood drive in Mineral Wells takes place May 6. Citizens can give blood that day at one of two locations: at a mobile unit, which will be at Palo Pinto General Hospital from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or at First United Methodist Church, 3-7 p.m. No appointment is needed locally.
