WEATHERFORD – A Weatherford High School junior involved in a single-vehicle crash Thursday died Friday at a Fort Worth hospital.
Dakota Hartman, 17, of Lipan, was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Hartman was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima southbound on Dennis Road south of Old Brock Road when, for an as yet undetermined reason, the vehicle veered off the west side of the roadway, striking a rock mailbox, a pipe fence and a barbed wire fence, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman.
It was raining and wet at the time of the crash, and the vehicle was believed to have been traveling at an unsafe speed, according to DPS.
LifeCare reportedly transported Hartman to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where she later died.
A Weatherford ISD spokesman confirmed Monday that Hartman was enrolled as a junior at Weatherford High School and said the school district had additional counselors on hand for students and would be sending home a letter to parents.
