MINERAL WELLS —
The former Dunbar school in the 700 block of South Oak Avenue will once again be named after the late 19th century poet.
The Paul Lawrence Dunbar Community Group Inc. non-profit organization continues efforts to restore the former school to its previous state, including replacing the stage that was removed after integration and the building was renamed the Bowie school.
The original Dunbar cornerstone was removed and replaced with one for the Bowie school. But now that has been replaced and a new Dunbar cornerstone will be unveiled and dedicated in a ceremony set to begin at 2 p.m. Friday outside the school.
The people involved with the group restoring the building say they hope to turn it into a community center.
