Friends and neighbors gathered to wish Mineral Wells resident Ada Jennings a happy 107th birthday Tuesday afternoon at Palo Pinto Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Jennings greeted visitors from her seat, adjacent to what she described as "the biggest birthday cake I've ever seen."
Nursing staff describe Jennings, whose birthday was Monday, as being in good health and spirits.
"She is very sharp," said Director of Social Services Karen Cromer. "She makes her bed everyday by herself. I think that keeps her going."
Cromer said Jennings took a trip Monday to the Oran home in which she lived until she was 100.
"She didn't have a clue where she was going," she said, explaining a family friend now occupies the residence.
Jennings' friend Dorothy Glover said she and several other individuals visit regularly. The original intent of the visits was to lift Jennings' spirits, though Glover said she has benefitted from Jennings' positive spirit.
"She is a very special lady and an inspiration to others," Glover said.
Mayor Mike Allen, who has helped celebrate Jennings' birthday in the past, was on hand Tuesday to wish her well.
"It's a pleasure to be here with this wonderful woman on her birthday," Allen said.
Jennings, whose husband died in 1976, is a charter member of Oran Baptist Church and has one daughter, Juanita Davidson.
