Lakewell House in Mineral Wells has been the life of the party lately, holding two major events in the later half of this month.
First, they got engines revving with their first annual classic car show, Jan. 18. The retirement home’s Resident Sales Manager, Denise Castillo, said 12 classic cars from local owners entered the contest, which crowned a champion based on a vote by all in attendance. Bruce Glover of Mineral Wells took home the trophy for his crowd-pleasing 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and also received a socket set and oil change kit provided by Autozone and O’Reilly Auto Parts, respectively. Other sponsors of the event included Metro, Golden Chick and Chicken Express.
The following week, Jan. 25, Lakewell House held a BBQ Benefit with all proceeds going directly to benefit the Mineral Wells Senior Center. Castillo said they were able to raise $600 for the non-profit organization, exceeding her goal and providing a great help to a group that does so much for the seniors in the community, asking for nothing in return.
“The team at Lakewell House would like to thank all of the volunteers that have offered up their time for our recent events,” Castillo said. “We had an abundance of help for the Classic Car Show, and we are so appreciative of all the help, we could not have done it without these wonderful people.
“Our team at Lakewell House and the team at the Senior Center would also like to thank each and every person who shared in making (the BBQ Benefit) happen. Lakewell House would like to thank the volunteers at the Senior Center for helping make this successful, from serving food to gathering supplies, working the silent auction and much more. Lakewell House management team would like to thank our wonderful employees here at Lakewell House. We have been blessed with a great staff that goes above and beyond not only for our residents, but also for any and all help we need with events and more.”
