Driver airlifted from rollover crash

By CHRIS AGEE

The lone occupant of a recent vehicle rollover was taken via air ambulance to a Fort Worth hospital from the scene.

According to the reporting officer, the crash happened around 5:24 a.m., Thursday, in the 1500 block of N. Oak Ave.

Reports indicate Willis Sonny Archer, 64, was driving a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara near the intersection of North Oak and N.W. 15th Street.

There were no witnesses to the crash; however, investigators suspect Archer was driving southbound on North Oak prior to the incident.

Though unconfirmed, police believe Archer drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with a telephone pole, causing the rollover.

A Mineral Wells crash report indicates the officer found the vehicle on the east side of the roadway, resting on its side. Archer was still inside the vehicle at the time of police arrival.

According to the officer, Archer was initially unresponsive. After opening the back hatch of the vehicle and converting its rear seats to move closer to the driver, the officer reported Archer was alert and was able to state his name before once again becoming unresponsive.

Emergency medical professionals arrived at the scene and began an attempt to remove Archer from the vehicle.

According to police reports, the driver “appeared to be acting strangely and resisting the EMS, leading them to believe there was a medical reason for the accident.”

Archer was transported from the scene by an AirEvac Lifeteam helicopter and transported to an unspecified hospital for treatment.
