Parents arrested for injury to 5-month-old

By CHRIS AGEE | cagee@mineralwellsindex.com

A couple arrested last month for injury to their five-month-old child remained in Palo Pinto County jail as of Wednesday afternoon, each being held on $75,000 bond.

According to Chief Deputy Mike Sudderth of the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office, the agency received a call from Child Protective Services on July 17, requesting an ambulance and an officer to the Kite Road residence of Willie Lee Ray Collins, 24, and Amanda Renae Winters-Collins, 19.

“They had a five-month-old baby in a travel trailer out there where the kids and parents were living that was severely malnourished,” Sudderth explained.

The baby was flown from the scene by air ambulance to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, he added.

Sudderth said the baby has made progress and “is doing OK” as of the last report he received.

“After getting some reports from the staff at Cook Children’s, we arrested the parents for injury to a child,” he said.

CPS also removed a 16-month-old girl from the home, he said.

That child was also reportedly taken to Cook Children’s for observation and is said to be in good condition.
