U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry will hold the annual service academy forum for the 13th District this Saturday in Wichita Falls.
Thornberry, R-Clarendon, will be on hand to present information about the United States Service Academies to interested students and their parents.
The forum will last from 10 a.m. to noon at the Region 9 Education Center and is designed specifically for potential nominees currently in their junior or senior year of high school. All students, parents, and counselors from across the region are also invited to attend.
"It is a great privilege each year for me to nominate some of our area's best and brightest high school students to attend our service academies," Thornberry said. "These young men and women represent the next generation of leaders in our military and our country."
In addition to Thornberry, representatives from West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy will also provide information and answer questions.
Thornberry is allowed to nominate a select number of students every year to be considered for acceptance by each service academy.
Students interested in applying for a spot must submit applications to his office by Dec. 1 of their senior year.
Those nominated at the congressional level are then among the group of potential students from which the academies choose. Accepted nominees receive free tuition in exchange for agreeing to serve in the military for at least five years after graduation.
