North Texas Pressure Vessels makes, installs new sign at park

From staff reports

With a new plasma cutting machine in place and a design drawn up, North Texas Pressure Vessels Inc. went to work in September to create the new Medal of Honor Memorial sign that now sits above the original sign for Fort Wolters Historical Park.

General Manager Howard Huffman volunteered NTPV to work on the plans for signage. With Computer Designer Phillip Speers the two decided on a design. The new machine enabled the crew to cut the sign out of metal much faster than their old equipment. In the expert hands of Plasma Machinist David Mallory and Machine Lead Gary Lee, the large sign was cut within an hour. Regie Ridgway and Vicente Martinez finished up the piece with a coat of paint.

When NTPV presented the Fort Wolters Gate Committee with the new sign for the memorial, the committee decided the sign should sit on top of the original sign of Fort Wolters Historical Park, rather than having the sign on individual posts.

In late October, NTPV welder Jimmy Johns who, assisted by his father Louis Johns, secured the sign at the park.

The committee hopes the new signage will help visitors and local citizens take note of the significance of the park and of the Medal of Honor recipients honored in the park for years to come.

“The Fort Wolters Gate Committee wants to say special thanks to North Texas Pressure Vessels Inc. for all the help in doing plaques for the memorial and this metal sign. Without their help the project might not have been completed,” said Secretary Mary Creighton. “The Fort Wolters Historical Park Committee continues with their dedication to keep history alive in Mineral Wells.”
