Six up; six to go.

Parents, fans of Mineral Wells High School sports and traveling fans have probably noticed “signage” – advertising in the form of billboard signs – placed in the gym, on the outfield fences of the baseball and softball fields and on the front of the big scoreboard that sits behind the south end zone at Ram Stadium.

Advertising in these locales help businesses get out a message and see their product or brand displayed for the many local and out of town fans who grace the MWISD athletic facilities in football, soccer, track, baseball, softball, volleyball and basketball, and advertisers also feel a part of the MWISD community by showing their spirit for the local teams.

MWISD is now offering spots on the back of the huge scoreboard. The selling point is that for every MWHS athletic, academic or theater events, cars passing through campus onto the parking lots will have a perfect visual of the back of the scoreboard, making it an ideal location for advertising.

“We (MWISD) came up with the idea to sell advertising on the back of the stadium scoreboard, and we tried to sell the idea of the value of having ads on the back of the scoreboard,” MWISD athletic director Chuck Lawrence said. “Having ads on the front of the scoreboard is great, and we certainly appreciate those sponsors immensely, but everyone who comes on to the Mineral Wells High School campus will see the back of the scoreboard.

“We have a nice display there for people to see.”

To date, Diamond Pharmacy, Crazy Water, Goodrum Renovations,  D&D Motors, Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home and Waddy Pharmacy have advertising signs on the back of the scoreboard.

“These businesses jumped on the idea, and we want to publicly thank those people and businesses for advertising with us,” Lawrence said. “We are using the money to raise money to improving our electronic signage on our other campuses.”

Lawrence went on to say that Houston Elementary needs a digital sign, and the money would also upgrade signage that already exists on the MWISD campuses.

“This is a three-year project,” he said.”The signs on the back of the football stadium scoreboard go for $7,500 for three years, and you have to sign a three-year contract.

“We can come up with a payment plan if necessary. That would be half up front and then pay the other quarters out for the next two years or pay half up front and the other half in two years.

“We have room for six more on the big scoreboard, and we might even go as far as selling advertising on the back of the baseball scoreboard (which faces U.S. Highway 180). But we would like to fill up the football scoreboard, first.

“I have been to several businesses across town, but we wanted to publicly thank the people and businesses that are currently advertising with us, and anyone that would like for me to make a presentation they can call me on my cell phone at (940) 452-2779.”
