New amenities greet guests at Unk's Lake this spring season

As the weather gets warmer, making a cool splash is as easy as heading to Perrin for a day at Unk's Lake Campground and Swimming Hole.

Preparing to open May 11 for its fourth year of operation, owner John Cope said there are a number of new reasons to visit.

"This year we're right in the completion phase of building some showers and restrooms," he said, "and we're putting in a pizzeria."

High Dive Pizza, as it will be known, will cater to those visitors who work up an appetite after a day of diving and swimming, he noted.

"We'll have wings and different types of hot breads," he said, in addition to traditional pizza choices.

There will also be more shopping opportunities this year, Cope noted.

"We're opening up the store as a real store," he explained. "There will be a lot more items people can purchase than in the past."

He said the ability to expand and offer even more than the notable acre-and-a-half freshwater swimming hole is due to great local support. The new amenities, he hopes, will attract even more people from surrounding communities.

"Mineral Wells really supports us well, but I'm still amazed by how many people don't know we're here or don't know how to get here," he said.

Unk's Lake and High Five Pizza opens in time for Mother's Day weekend, Cope said, with the first day of operation set for May 11. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for swimming, he added.

"We're open all year long for camping and fishing," he said.

The destination is located at 2479 Elenburg Road in Perrin. For more information or for directions, search for the Unk's Lake page on Facebook or call (940) 798-2096.
