ZONTA Status of Women Luncheon March 23

By TYLER MASK

Women and their many contributions are about to be honored. Mineral Wells Zonta Club will again host their Status of Women Luncheon, this year on March 24, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Holiday Hills Country Club.

The luncheon's purpose is to promote professional and executive women, MWZC President Dacey Malone said.

"It think its important because it advocates for women,” Malone said. “It shows other women what they can accomplish if they want to. And it honors women for the great things that they do."

Each year a special guest speaks at the luncheon. This year, former Wichita Falls Texas Business Women President Janice Ralson Sons is slated to speak.

Sons was former Woman of the Year in Wichita Falls (1990-1991) and is well known throughout Texas. She has held a public office in Wichita County Since 1988 and is active in the community, serving on the boards of the Arc of Wichita County, YMCA, Susan G. Komen Wichita Falls Race for the Cure and Justice of the Peace and Constable Association of Texas. She currently serves as president for Arc and YMCA. Her awards include Hirschi High School Alumni of the Year, induction into the North Texas Women Hall of Fame and two Distinguished Leadership Awards by Leadership Wichita Falls.

During the luncheon, three prominent women of Mineral Wells will be recognized as well, Malone said.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students and can be obtained from any local Zonta member.

Zonta International was founded in 1919 and is a prominent international women's advocacy group with more than 30,000 members hailing from 1,200 clubs in 66 countries, according to ZI's website.

“Mineral Wells Zonta Club was formed on Dec. 10, 1955,” Malone said. “We currently have about 40 members.”

Zonta Club members, otherwise known as “Zontians” volunteer their time and abilities to local and international service projects. Zontians also give to specific scholarship programs aligned with Zonta's mission and objectives. The entire organization is nonsectarian and nonpartisan.
