ARM women’s center benefits from many generous donors

By CHRIS AGEE

A unique fundraiser culminating with a raffle drawing for a restored 1923 Ford Model T Roadster went a long way toward the purchase of a new Addiction Recovery Ministries outreach facility.

Pastor Randy Lawrence owned the classic automobile for about five years prior to donating it to ARM to help fund its ongoing project to provide a women’s center for locals in need.

Lawrence, who pastors a church in Lone Camp, also oversees an adjacent mission called Fellowship of Hope Center. Saturday’s raffle and auction fundraiser took place at that location, referred to as the “southwest ARM division.”

The generosity of a community was on display for the event, he explained.

“I’m so proud of my church and how they worked this auction and raffle,” he said, noting the selfless act of raffle winners Danny and Crystal Morris took him by surprise.

“Mr. Morris said all he wanted to do was give his grandchildren a ride and he’d donate it back to the women’s center to be raffled off again,” Lawrence said. “I was crying like a baby because I had prayed for a miracle that day.”

According to Morris, he and his wife decided prior to the raffle drawing to give back the prize if one of the three tickets they purchased was drawn.

“When I bought those tickets, I knew it was for a very good cause,” he said, noting he first saw the vehicle shortly before the drawing. “It was a really nice vehicle, and sporty. It would be nice to have in somebody’s collection.”

He said he felt it was more important to help provide resources for area residents.

“I think there are plenty of abused women and children that need the help that a lot of times they can’t get,” he said.
