Operation Kidsafe is up and running at Ram Country Mineral Wells after dozens of local children took part in the program Wednesday morning.
Founder and CEO Mark Bott explained parents and guardians can bring a child to the dealership any time during business hours and obtain a copy of his or her fingerprints and photo. Should the child be endangered at some point in the future, such information can go a long way toward a safe recovery.
Mineral Wells Police Chief Dean Sullivan said the program provides a substantial benefit to the city.
“It’s a great thing Ram Country and Operation Kidsafe are bringing to our community,” he said.
“Kids are our most important asset and they are our future. We’ve got to do anything we can to protect their future.”
The only record of the visit goes home with the parent, Bott explained, and families can update the photograph at the same location as the child ages.
“We’re delighted to have this program,” said Ram Country Marketing Director John Ludlum. “It is more important than ever.”
He said the local dealership is the first in Texas to offer Operation Kidsafe, explaining each of its locations will begin offering the service. The program is available any time during business hours, he noted.
Bott said Operation Kidsafe uses the same technology and equipment as the FBI, providing a high quality – and free – product that could potentially save a child’s life.
Safety tips are printed on the back of the data sheet, he noted, and provides a guide for families in preparing children for a variety of situations.
“This is an opportunity to have some identifiable, law enforcement-level information,” Sullivan said, which give officers a leg up in responding to certain emergency situations.
Ram Country is located at 4011 U.S. Highway 180 East and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
