Do you like dancing and western music? If so, the Cowtown Society of Western Music may have just the thing for you.
This year CSWM is putting on their 16th Annual CWSM Swing Fest, where locals can get their groove on and listen to live western swing music. The event is slated for Saturday, May 3, at Holiday Hills Country Club from noon to 10 p.m.
“Enjoy great live western swing music played by some of the best western swing musicians in the country,” CSWM Secretary and Treasurer Joyce Miller said. “Pat Jacobs and the CSWM All Star Heroes Band will kick off the show, and Brady Bowen and his legendary western swing band, with many special guest performers, will close the event.”
Amidst all the fun, 34 “heroes of western swing” will be honored, including five “living legends,” for their outstanding contributions to the promotion and preservation of western swing music.
Three different award programs will be present to award the honorees with medals and certificates of recognition.
A live and silent auction will take place at the event. And there will be t-shirts, programs and posters for sale to benefit CSWM.
“Cowtown Society of Western Music is a non-profit organization run by volunteers who love the western swing genre,” Miller said.
“Swingers” and attendees will be able to purchase food from HHCC's menu, and there will be an open cash bar.
Proper attire is “dressy western,” including, of course, jeans, Miller said.
Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. For those looking to pay in advance, tickets are $12 for adults and $3 for children and are available by contacting Miller.
Free Jam Session
CSWM would also like to extend an invitation to the public for a “sneak preview” jam session on May 2, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., at Charlie and Linda O'Bannon's music barn, located at 10708 Highway 180 in Cool. This event is free to all and will consist of dozens of western swing musicians playing tunes that everyone can dance to.
Food will be available, but it is recommended that individuals bring their own beverages, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. It is also recommended that attendees bring a lawn chair, as the “party barn” gets crowded pretty fast, Miller said.
Attire for the jam session is casual.
“It’s a fun and relaxed atmosphere where you visit with some of the honorees, the musicians and meet some of the volunteers who host this great event,” Miller said. “In case you didn’t realize it, western swing is the official music of Texas as proclaimed by Texas Governor Rick Perry. We hope to see a lot of new and familiar faces in Mineral Wells the weekend of May 2 through May 3 for this great western swing celebration.”
