Project 365: a case of ‘Texans helping Texas’

Local Texas State Guard unit teams up with Mission Mineral Wells and Mineral Wells police department

— On Saturday, April 12, the Texas State Guard 1st Battalion 4th Regiment, Civil Affairs of Weatherford joined forces with Mineral Wells residents and the police department in an effort known as Project 365.

Men from the Guard unit worked alongside 14 churches, the Mineral Wells police department and Progressive Waste Solutions to clean a portion of the area the police department has designated as the Project 365 zone.

“The Texas State Guard is about Texans helping Texas and what better way than to support Project 365 and local law enforcement in helping to make a safer, cleaner community,” said unit Chaplin Brian Reagan.

The day’s effort was the third of four Saturdays that churches worked together to share the love of Christ with the families of the Project 365 area.

“This ... was unique because we had not only the churches, but also a nearby Texas State Guard unit joined Mission Mineral Wells and the Mineral Wells police department with the cleanup efforts,” said Rose Jordan.

After just two hours of picking up garbage and debris, the difference in the area was clearly visible and volunteers knew they had made a difference.

“We have multiple denominations coming together to make a better community for our families and for our children,” said David Chavira, of Iglesia Templo Bautista.

Project 365 is an initiative of the Mineral Wells police department that works to combat crime in a specified area of the city over the course of one year.  In its second year, the program is made up of four phases that include a highly visible police presence and cleanup and rejuvenation of the neighborhood.

Mission Mineral Wells is a ministry of Pulse Ministries Inc. desiring to unite local churches in showing the love of Christ to the residents of Mineral Wells. For information contact Jordan at 682-225-3315 or visit Mission Mineral Wells’ page on Facebook.
