Lone Camp EMT class under way

Mineral Wells Index

— LONE CAMP – The students of the Lone Camp Volunteer Fire Department Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class of 2014 are being instructed by Doug McCauley, EMT-P Matt Feldman, EMT-P and Jimmy Coker, EMT-I coordinated through the Possum Kingdom Lake EMS Training.

This class was made possible at a reduced rate thanks to a grant from TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service and TxDOT EMS Education Grant Program).

The students have been attending classes Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. since March 3, 2014, and are gearing up to start their clinical rotations. Each student has to complete a minimum of 140 hours of rotations during the clinical phase as well as still attend class two nights a week.

There are currently 21 bright minds absorbing this vital information, set to graduate July 9 and test to become nationally registered EMTs to serve their communities’ medical needs as first responders/EMTs.

Clinicals are done at Palo Pinto General Hospital Emergency Room, Mineral Wells Fire Department EMS, Graham Regional Medical Center Emergency Room and Respiratory Therapy, Young County EMS, Comanche County Medical Center Emergency Room and Comanche County EMS.

We have students from Azle, De Leon VFD, Gorman VFD, Brazos VFD, Santo Fire and EMS, Lone Camp VFD, Stephenville, Gordon VFD, Palo Pinto VFD, Millsap VFD and Granbury.
