For those with a New Year’s resolution to become more active, state parks across America are participating in the First Day Hikes program initiated by the National Association of State Parks Directors.
Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway is among parks in all 50 states offering the event.
According to information provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife, the first two-hour local hike will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a second at 2 p.m.
During the event, participants will see some of the most remote areas of Penitentiary Hollow.
Authorities explain the hike will include strenuous physical activity, including crawling through tight spaces and through short caves.
The First Day Hike is included in the cost of park admission or with a state park pass.
Anyone interested in participating can contact Park Interpreter David Owens at (940) 328-1171.
