Merchants Christmas Parade, Rhonda’s Food Roundup postponed due to icy conditions


Today and Saturday’s “Rhonda’s Round Up Food Drive” and Saturday’s annual “Mineral Wells Merchants Community Christmas Parade” have been postponed due to deteriorating weather conditions.

The parade, originally scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, will be moved to Saturday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m.

Rhonda’s Round Up Food Drive, originally scheduled for today and Saturday at the Mineral Wells McDonald’s will now be held from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14.

Pick-up service will be available by request only by calling Allie at (940) 328-1930.

On Thursday afternoon, temperatures locally fell below freezing in the afternoon as freezing rain started to develop.

The forecast for today and Saturday calls for more freezing rain, sleet and sub-freezing temperatures.

As of press time on Thursday, Mineral Wells ISD had not made a decision on whether to close schools today.

Parents and students can access www.mwisd.net to find out about any school closings.

Also, several area basketball tournaments postponed play. The MWHS freshman and JV girls tournament was canceled as was a tournament in Millsap.

Santo called off games late Thursday and today at its tournament and Saturday’s schedule is pending.
